The School of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry of Mapúa Institute of Technology was established in 1934, making it the first Chemical Engineering program in the country. At present, the School offers four programs – Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemistry, and Materials Science and Engineering – and is the service department for different courses in the curricula of other programs offered at Mapúa Institute of Technology such as General Chemistry courses, Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Environmental Conflicts and Social Change, Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, Introduction to Biotechnology, and Bioelectronics and Biomimetics.
